Where to access Ashes of Ariandel DLC
ORIGINAL TEXT: Since this is a Souls game, the DLC most certainly won’t be accessed via menu. If it’s anything like previous From Software games, you’ll have to go to a newly added location or NPC in order to enter the DLC area. You might also need a special new item in order to go there.
The developers have said nothing about it at this point, but the obvious choice would be Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. It would fit both because of the somewhat similar landscape, and the doll connection. It is presumed that Ariandel is somehow connected to Ariamis from the first game – a doll was used to access the painting then, just like a doll was used to enter Irithyll. It also corresponds to where the previous games’ DLCs started, progress-wise.
Another good candidate would be Anor Londo. Equally cold climate, lots of grandiose spaces where you could hang a painting that’s actually a portal to another world. It’s also the place where we found a set of Painting Guardian robes in Dark Souls 3.
Of course, all of this is just speculation. We’re going to learn the exact way once the DLC is out, on October 25th. We’ll update the page as soon as we know how to start the expansion, so stay tuned.
