The media mogul was born in Istanbul, Turkey on 21. March 1970. When he was 8 years old, his family moved to the United States of America and he spent most of his youth in East Brunswick, New Jersey. As is typical for people of Turkish origin, he grew up in a secular Muslim household. He had a brief period of devoutness during his college days, but is now an agnostic. Cenk Uygur received his high school diploma from East Brunswick High School and a management degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He lived quite a bit while studying at the University of Pennsylvania, where he got to play rugby with Greg Lippmann.
Through it all, he was sure to keep his interest in Turkish affairs alive. He was an active member of the Student Union of the Turkish Student Union. He didn’t stop with degrees, however, earning a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School. This degree earned him employment as an attorney at two law firms; One in the Big Apple and the other in Washington, DC. When he first dipped his toe in the media pool, he was hosting a weekend radio show at the WWRC in Washington, DC. He then hosted another at WRKO in Boston, Massachusetts.
Shortly thereafter, Cenk Uygur began writing, producing, and even starring on the WAMI-TV news show The Times in Miami, Florida. It was after all that that his idea, The Young Turks on Sirius Satellite Radio. Since then his empire has expanded his reach enormously and he has become one of the most influential men on the silver screen.
