There is a unique problem in the Huntingdon Area School District.

School officials say its music department "doesn't have enough instruments to go around" as nearly the entire fourth grade class at the Southside Elementary School signed up for band next school year.

On Wednesday, the school district held a "walk-a-thon" to raise money for more instruments.

Southside Elementary School Director Rick Kane says the walk started at midnight in Huntingdon Borough and continued during the day until participants made it to one-hundred-thousand steps.

“There has never been a time where we don’t feel supported. It’s an incredible community that cares about its youth. We want to see everyone succeed. And music is one of those things that is very unique in what it can offer, and these kids are really interested in that, they have the bug.”

The goal is to raise ten thousand dollars.

If you're interested in donating money or instruments in good condition, you can contact Kane through the group's Facebook page titled "All Day 100K,” or go through the GoFundMe page of the same name.
