INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana Borough police and state police in Indiana are investigating a shooting that occurred around 9:25 p.m. Friday at a private home on the 00 block of North 15th Street.

Police said an 18-year-old man was shot one time and is currently being treated at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for a wound to the upper right chest area.

Jacob Robert Kelly, 19, of Indiana, has been charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, officials said.

Police said their investigation shows that Kelly, the victim and a witness, who all know each other, were inside the home when Kelly started to wave a handgun. Police said the handgun went off and the victim was hit once. The victim was taken from the scene for treatment and later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to officials.

Police said Kelly was arrested at the scene and taken to Indiana County Jail, where he awaits arraignment.

Police said the gun was found near the home. They said it appeared there had been an attempt to hide it.

The investigation is ongoing.
