STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) - RedLine Speed Shine Car Wash is getting into the Halloween spirit a little early by holding a haunted car wash.

"It's something that we wanted to do this year for the community," RedLine Speed Shine Owner and President Tom Gravine says. "We wanted to show some appreciation for our customers that have supported us through this difficult time."

RedLine is closing the doors to its car wash tunnel ahead of time Thursday afternoon to transform it into a tunnel of terror.

COVID-19 has presented various challenges this year, including to the car wash business. Gravine says less travel means for fewer cars needing to be washed, "We've had a little bit of slump, in terms of the number of cars that we've washed." However, he adds more down time seems to allow for more people looking to detail their cars.

Now, some Halloween traditions are being changed in communities, too. This is where RedLine employees are stepping in, volunteering their time past normal operation hours, to hold this haunted car wash.

Gravine says it brings the seasonal spirit to families in town in a safe, contactless way during the pandemic, "It's something that maybe the community needs right now. Families can come out, they don't have to worry about getting out of their car, don't have to worry about wearing your mask or anything like that. Just supposed to be fun for a family activity to try to get us into the Halloween spirit."

The haunted car wash runs Thursday and Friday night from 7-10 p.m. RedLine is offering their premium wash for a discounted price of $15, cash or card. The scares...are on the house.

Gravine continues, "It's still gonna be a car wash, so we're still gonna be putting people through the tunnel. Might have some surprises as you're going down through the tunnel. The track may stop once or twice, so just be prepared for that. Might have some people pop out at you."
