Why was the character of Chance taken off screen to go to Spain? - The Young and the Restless

Since all of Abby and Chances problems stem from when she used Devons swimmers while he was away in Spain, it got me to wondering why did the writers sideline Donny Boaz in the first place? Does anyone know happened there?

If I remember correctly, it had to do with Boaz refusing to comply with covid protocol.

Ok, thanks. I thought that was Ashland’s character.

As I recall, the first actor who played Ashland did follow the Covid protocols up to a point. He came back early to the set rather than waiting the total amount of days. He got fired for that. Boaz flatly refused the Covid protocols and while they looked around for a replacement, Chance was in Spain.

Thanks for clearing that up. If only impatient Abby had waited for her husband to return before deciding to have a baby, like any normal person would have.

If only Chance hadn’t left Abby a letter telling her to go ahead and get a sperm donor and he hoped to come home to a baby. The writers obviously did not want to shelve their story for a year, because they had to fire the actor playing Chance.

Amazing how quickly Abby went from refusing to give up on Chance when everybody thought he was dead to throwing it all away with Devon. It’s like their marriage totally rolled off a cliff after Chance came back.

Richard Burgi spent lost Christmas with his mother and he did quarantine according to the CDC protocols. However CBS had their own protocols which was 5 days isolation longer than the CDC recommended. So he returned 5 days earlier than he should have. Instead of being sent home for the next 5 days, they chose to fire him.

Donny Boaz refused to follow covid protocols. He wouldn’t wear a mask. He was hanging around in large crowds and posting pictures on social media of him in large crowds without a mask. He got covid once or twice. That’s why Melissa’s husband had to step in as a temporary fill in for Abby and Chance’s wedding.

I think there was something in Donny’s contract about recasting because it took a year for them to recast the role. Which is why Chance was sent overseas and off screen.

I think they fired? the old Chance and later hired a replacement our current Chance.

God, I can’t remember the last time this show took so much time to recast a character.

If I’m not mistaken, he had just signed a new contract the month prior to him being let go.

When the actor that played Rey quit, he mentioned something about a 6-month clause. Apparently 6 months into the contract they could opt to bench the character.

Maybe that’s what happened with Donny. I don’t know how their contracts work, but if they benched Chance and then they recast him right away, they quite possibly could have had to pay him the money he would have been paid for the duration of that contract.

That’s just speculation on my part, not based on fact. But there was some reason that they didn’t immediately recast the role and waited one year. Donny was let go just before Christmas 2020. The recast Chance showed up just before Christmas 2021. That doesn’t sound like just a coincidence.

It took almost one year before they recast Summer
